The showcase will take place on October 18, 2013 in the evening at Wellesley College. There will be a linked ethnic studies conference the following day from 10 am to 5pm (EST) with student artists performing and sharing their voices.
In addition to the showcase serving as a prelude to the Ethnic Studies Conference, the event will provide a unique perspective on the dynamic and intersectional experiences within our communities across sexuality, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, and more — through the expression of slam poetry, storytelling, comedy, and open-mic performances. The event will provide a stage for student voices and for voices within the larger community. Respectively, the showcase will feature an all-female, all asian comedy troupe called Dis/orient/ed Comedy, Joshua Bennett, Amanda Torres, and Harvard’s Speak-Out-Loud.
The showcase intends to excite and engage the communities on campus in essential conversations surrounding ethnic studies at Wellesley College and at liberal arts institutions.
